How to use this checklist

Work through the first group in the fall, before the first hard freeze. It takes about an hour and costs a few dollars in foam sleeves and caulk. Tick each item and the tool saves your progress in your browser on this device.

Keep the second group in mind on the first cold morning. A frozen pipe that thaws slowly is often fine. One that thaws fast may split, so stay close while the water returns.

The third group is for the worst case. Print the page and stick it near the water meter. In the first hour, stopping the water and calling for help matter more than anything else.
